Gamma

HTP-Kerosene Engine

The Gamma 8 and Gamma 2 rocket engines were used on the first and second stages of the British Black Arrow rocket.

Uniquely fueled by high-test peroxide (HTP or H2O2), the engines were 8 and 2 chambered versions of the Gamma 201 and 301 initially developed by Armstrong Siddeley, and later Bristol Siddeley (mergeed into Rolls-Royce), for the Black Knight ballistic missile.

With the exhaust of the engines consisting of predominantly water, the lower percentage of CO2 made the engines much cleaner then the more traditional LOX / RP-1 Engines.
