Solid Rocket Motor and Stage

The SR-19-AJ-1 was an Aerojet developed motor used on the LGM-30 Minuteman ICBM and the Minotaur I rocket XM56 second stage.

The UTC XSR-57-UT-1 (FW-4S) flew on the Altair 3 stage of Scout, Thor and Atlas, and as bus propulsion on Explorer 46.

The Thiokol SR-118 with TU-903 solid-fuel rocket motor was developed as the first stage for the LGM-118 Peacekeeper ICBM. It was later used as the first stage of the Minotaur III, IV & V and ATB rockets. It was further developed into the Thiokol Castor-120 stage, used on the Athena and Taurus/Minotaur-C rockets. The Aerojet SR-119 was used as second, and the The Hercules SR-120 as third stage.

Atlas Rocket Family

The Atlas rockets were a Convair development of the SM-65 Atlas missile, which was first tested on December 17, 1957. Having no inherent structural stability, the core sustainer stage needed to be pressurized when vertical.

Thor-Delta Rocket Family

The Thor-Delta family of rockets first launched in 1958 and lofted a multitude of satellites, space probes and spacecraft. It evolved from the PGM-17 Thor IRBM booster into the Delta IV Heavy launch vehicle.

Scout Rocket Family

Designed in 1957 at NACA's Langley Research Center and contracted to Vought, later LTV, the first Solid Controlled Orbital Utility Test system, or Scout, flew on April 18, 1960.

Minotaur Rocket Family

The Minotaur (and Taurus) rocket family, derived from refurbished Minuteman II and Peacekeeper ICBMs, was produced by the Orbital Sciences Corporation.

To test the Orion Launch Abort System (LAS), a capsule test article was placed on top of an old SR-118 Peacekeeper first stage powered by a TU-903 motor, and launched on July 2, 2019.
