Meet Dnepropetrovsk Sputnik Unifitsirovannyy-1 Geofizicheskiy, or DS-U1-G for friends. It was part of the DS standardized series of Soviet satellites designed and built by the Ukrainian OKB-586 or later Yuzhnoye Design Office, and used for geophysical research.

Like a lot of its Soviet counterparts, it received the same name as the rocket it was launched on. These Kosmos satellites were launched on the The Kosmos-2 and -3 rockets. The Kosmos name went on to become the standard pseudonym for all classified USSR spacecraft.

Unfortunately this illustration was based solely on pictures taken at a museum and 2 grainy pictures taken at a 1967 technology fair. The models displayed differed from each other so enjoy this illustration with a historic grain of salt. Will adjust if more reference material surfaces.
